The Revolutionary War on Cape Cod and the Islands: Issues, Events, and People with Dr. David Martin
Dr. David Martin will present highlights of a new illustrated book, prepared in time for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in 2026, which brings together the facts and narratives of the little-known histories of the Revolution on Cape Cod and the Islands from the early 1760s to 1783 (the Treaty of Paris, ending the war). Co-written by 24 authors, coordinated through the Cape and Islands Historians Committee, the book will be available to purchase at the event in the Thornton Meeting Room.
Topics include: accounts of the few actual battles fought on Cape and Islands, privateering, the serious splits between Loyalists and Patriots, British shipwrecks off of Cape Cod which
resulted in favorable outcomes for the Patriots, the history of African Americans and Native Americans from the region who served actively in the War, and the stories of 10
important individuals from the region who played important roles in the Revolutionary period.
A recent past president of the Marstons Mills Historical Society, Dr. Martin is a history and education specialist, and was previously a teacher, school administrator, and curriculum developer.
This event is free and no registration is required.
